That's A Wrap! Walnut Acres Walk-A-Thon 2018 We wanted to share some fun, final details from the 2nd annual Walk-A-Thon that happened on Friday, April 13. Together, we donated over $32,000 to the PFC. Thank you to Walnut Acres families, friends, and neighbors for your support! These funds will go directly to this year's staff salaries, art and science programs, and basic supply needs.

And how far did we walk and jog as a school? 580 students participated in the Walkathon on Friday April 13, and ran a total of 4,678 laps around our track. That equals out to 1,170 miles, or from Walnut Acres all the way to El Paso, TX.

Congratulations to Mrs. Cowles 4th grade class for the most laps, Mrs. Ng's 2nd grade class for the most fundraising, and Ms. Carella's 3rd grade class for most class spirit. All three classes will get extra recess and a Jamba Juice Smoothie Party this month.

Congratulations to the winners of the prize giveaways for fundraising! There were 57 winners, and prizes were sent home earlier this week.

And finally, a big thanks to parents Chantal Morrison and CC Pirtle for all of their hard work securing prize donations and company sponsorships for our event!

5th Grade Girl Scout Troop 33086's Gift to Walnut Acres

Attention Walnut Acres Parents! Your kids may have already told you the amazing news, but on Wednesday, April 25 at the Volunteer Appreciation Sing-Out, the 5th grade Girl Scout Troop 33086 announced a special gift to Walnut Acres. They made recess even better by using their extra cookie sales money to buy 35 NEW playground balls! The troop wanted something to be remembered by when they leave Walnut Acres, and because there just weren’t enough balls to go around. Well listen up! In addition to the gift there will be a new checkout system! This will be put into place soon. For more information either ask your child or ask a Girl Scout of Troop 33086!

Thank you, Simone Leto, Girl Scout

Next Week! Recycling at Pick Up- Got Aluminum Cans and Plastic Bottles?

All next week, May 7-11, we are collecting CRV-labeled aluminum cans and plastic bottles at morning drop off. No need to get out of your car - just hand us the bag (or open your trunk for us) as you go through the drive thru!

Every first full week of the month, we will collect CRV beverage containers (please, no glass) from you as you drop your child off at school. Recycled materials will be exchanged for cash at a recycling center and the proceeds will be used for playground supplies, and for Walnut Acres Recycling Club supplies and activities.

Drive Thru and Drop Off every morning May 7-11th!

Walk & Roll to School Day is Coming!Wednesday, May 9 is Walnut Acres second Walk & Roll to School Day of the school year!

WHY walk & roll? It's fun, healthy, reduces traffic, it gives students responsibility, and builds independence! Click here to see event details and where Walk & Roll groups will meet to join a group near you. And, don't forget to check in when you arrive at school to be counted and get a prize!

Students are reminded to use Street Smarts to stay safe while biking, skateboarding, riding scooters and walking:

Always...

  • Wear helmets,

  • Ride on the right side of the road (go in the same direction as traffic),

  • Stop at red lights and stop signs,

  • Make eye contact with drivers,

  • When walking: Use crosswalks and Stop, Look, & Listen before crossing streets!

Parents are also reminded to use Street Smarts while driving in the 20 MPH school zone. Your children - and their classmates - are worth the extra time it takes to drive safely.
