WELCOME TO WALNUT ACRES!
We are so happy to welcome your child to Walnut Acres. We hope that your whole family will feel right at home here.

KEY EVENTS FOR NEW FAMILIES

These events happen every year during the summer, most of them during the last week of July through the first week of August. Watch for Konstella, social media, and our Key Dates for exact dates and updates.

NEW FAMILIES PLAY DATE – Hosted by the New Families Committee, this playdate takes place at a local park. It's a chance for incoming students to get to know each other before school starts. The whole family is welcome. These playdates are usually organized or late June or July.

NEW FAMILIES PICNIC AND SCHOOL TOUR – Hosted by the New Families Committee, this is a fun welcome activity for new families. Bring a lunch or snacks to enjoy while we get to know each other and answer questions, then take a guided tour around the school. We will meet at the outside lunch tables in front of the school office. The whole family is welcome! This is usually held mid-day the week before school starts.

NEW FAMILIES ORIENTATION – Meet the Principal, learn about our Parent Faculty Club (PFC), and receive information about school policies, resources, and programs. We will also talk about Jaguar Day and other upcoming events to kick off our school year. This event is held in the Walnut Acres Multi-Use Room (the large building located along Wiget Lane). We prefer to have just parents in attendance. This is held in the evening, the week before school starts.

JAGUAR DAY – Each year we hold a school-wide kick-off event called Jaguar Day in the Multi-Use Room and the quad. At this event, you receive your teacher assignment, donate to Jaguar Fund, purchase Jaguar spiritwear, and learn all about the PFC activities and programs.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT TK/K – Meet your child’s teacher and learn about classroom expectations.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL – School officially begins!

BACK TO SCHOOL COFFEE – Join fellow parents for coffee and conversation after drop-off on the first day.

Register at: parentsquare.com/signin

REGISTER FOR KONSTELLA – The best way to stay up-to-date with what's going on at school is to sign up for Konstella, our private parent community that includes an online parent directory, events, announcements, and signups from your classroom and the PFC.
Register at: www.konstella.com/cd/RC7E18

ORDER SCHOOL SUPPLIES – There are 2 options for purchasing school supplies. You can order a kit, or purchase items using the grade-level supply lists. The link below is provided for convenience and supports the PFC with a portion of each purchase. Have your child bring their school supplies on the first day of school unless otherwise directed by their teacher.

To order a kit, visit the School Tool Box website. It takes approximately 2-4 weeks for delivery.

To purchase school supplies using the supply list, click on the grade level tab that applies. You will see the list items that have been requested by teachers.

Please Note: You are not required to purchase, donate, or contribute any of the requested items on the school supply list for your grade level. Additionally, no student will be denied from participating in any classroom activity if he or she chooses not to purchase, donate, or contribute any requested item(s). However, if you voluntarily decide to purchase, donate, or contribute any item, any quantity of the requested supplies and provide them to your student’s teacher(s), the supplies will be shared equally among all the students in the class in order for each student to participate in the planned, fun, academic activities.

VOLUNTEERING BACKGROUND CHECK – For the safety of our children, ALL school volunteers are required to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a TB test. If you plan to volunteer in the classroom or chaperone on field trips, it is recommended to complete the volunteer process during summer or at the beginning of the school year. Please visit MDUSD Volunteer Instructions website at: www.mdusd.org/families/get-involved for full instructions, and access all required forms.
