Campus Community Service Day, February
During this campus-wide community service day, we organize projects that can be done to beautify and update our Walnut Acres Campus. A sign up goes out via Konstella on how to participate.
If you have any questions or are interested in helping with any of the Walnut Acres Community Service activities, please email us at communityserviceday@walnutacrespfc.net for more information.
Community Service Drives
Food Drive, September
The first food drive of the year will benefit the MDUSD SOAR (Support Office for Access and Resources) Food Pantry. SOAR offers assistance with transportation to/from school, meals, and assistance to obtain health care and needed services. The Food Pantry provides food to many families in need within our school district.
The most needed items are no prep “open and eat” foods such as cereal, granola bars, canned fruit, stews, etc.
Thanksgiving Food Drive, November
In November, Walnut Acres Elementary School gathers shelf stable Thanksgiving food items and assembles baskets to support community members in need from Ygnacio Valley Elementary School. Food items can include canned items (vegetables, cranberry sauce, meats) and dried goods (rice, pasta, potato flakes). Donations can also include visa or grocery story gift cards and baskets for assembling all the items in. There will be volunteer opportunities to help assemble the baskets.
Community Service Event
Toy Drive, December
Every holiday season, Walnut Acres conducts an Annual Toy Drive, this year supporting Ygnacio Valley Elementary School. Donation of new and gently used toys and books (no stuffed animals) are accepted. Pending the needs of the community, new and gently used jackets may also be collected. There will be volunteer opportunities to sort and deliver the donations to Ygnacio Valley Elementary.
Darcie Jones Book Drive, March
This community service drive was named after Darcie Jones, a Walnut Acres parent who started a book drive in the Spring of 1994 to benefit the summer reading program at Meadow Homes Elementary School in Concord. After she died of cancer on December 31, 1996, the PFC renamed the book drive “The Darcie Jones Book Drive” and planted a tree outside the 3rd grade wing in honor of all that she contributed to Walnut Acres Elementary School
