The Team at Curtains Up Youth Theatre (CUYT) is pleased to present our full list of programs for 2023-24. We are so excited to continue offering an array of musical theatre options: mini-musicals, our popular full-scale winter musical, and our summer theatre camp.  We can’t wait for you to join us on stage, for lots of singing, dancing and acting fun!

Parents, now is the time to review what we are offering in the 2023-24 school year and secure your performer’s spot. Our fabulous CUYT Team will be running the programs:  Judy Ryken, our Music Director, Lee Oller, our Drama Director, Frank Ryken, our Choreographer, and Sabrina Myers, our Assistant Director.

Mini Musical Theatre Programs:

‘The Cheese Stands Alone!’  for 2nd and 3rd Grades.

There’s trouble brewing in the farmer’s dell when Cheesy tries to make friends with Miss Rat.  This is a fabulous mini-musical about standing up for yourself!

September 5 – October 12.

‘’How Does Your Garden Grow?”  for Kindergarten and 1st Grades.

The weeds are taking over the garden! Join the fun with this country-style, garden hoedown, and help us save the crop!

April 9 – May 16.

Our mini musicals will rehearse every Tuesday and Thursday during the six-week session, from 2:45 to 3:45 pm.   The performance will be in the evening, at 7 pm, on the last Thursday of the session. These Mini Musicals will include narration, vocal instruction and choreography as performers tell these high-energy, fun-filled stories.

Full-Scale Musical:

“The Lion King” - Open to 4th and 5th Graders.

A full-scale musical has been a tradition at Walnut Acres for over 27 years. This is the capstone of our programs and you won’t want to miss it!  This year’s show, The Lion King, has it all – great songs, fun dances, wonderful characters, and a beautiful story about the circle of life.

Group auditions will be January 9-11 (please note all registered students will have a part in the show in one of our two casts – auditions just help the directors assign roles).

Rehearsals start January 16 and go through mid-March. One cast rehearses every Tuesday/Friday and the other cast every Monday/Thursday, from 2:45 to 5:00 pm. However, there may be a few other weekdays added in February and March (due to holidays and production weeks); and full Run-through and Dress Rehearsals will run longer, to around 6 pm. There will be 4 performances, two for each cast. Show dates are March 15, 16, 22, and 23.

Summer Camp Musical:

“Broadway, Our Way!” – Our summer musical is a parade of scenes and songs from great Broadway musicals, all tied together with a modern day storyline. Lots of fun opportunities for every performer!  The Directors are considering choosing from these fabulous shows: Wizard of Oz, Aladdin, Willy Wonka, Grease, and Jungle Book.

Open to students who will have completed grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 by the summer of 2024:  Auditions will be June 5 & 6. Camp meets for three weeks, Monday – Friday, June 10 – 27, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.  Camp ends with two, full-scale musical performances at 7 pm on June 28 & 29.

As you review the program listings, please know that we will accept enrollment based on the order deposit payment is received with completed on-line registration.
