Curtains Up Youth Theatre

The Team at Curtains Up Youth Theatre (CUYT) is pleased to present our full list of programs for 2021-22. As you may know, due to the pandemic we had to pivot to online ‘Zoomsical’ productions. We loved this new technological way to work with the students over the last year and we know it kept their music and theatre love growing, but this fall, we are excited to get back to in-person rehearsals, with mini-musicals, our popular full-scale winter musical, and summer camp in 2022. We can’t wait to see our performers again – singing, dancing and acting on stage!

Parents, now is the time to review what we are offering in the 2021-22 school year and secure your performer’s spot. As you consider which program(s) might interest you, keep in mind that there will be no in-school choral music grade-level performances next school year. Our CUYT Team will be running the programs with Judy Ryken, our Music Director, Frank Ryken, our Choreographer, and Lee Oller, our Drama Director.

Mini Musical Theatre Programs:

‘The Story of Willy Wonka’ for 4th and 5th Grades

August 24 – September 30

‘The Story of the Jungle Book’ for 2nd and 3rd Grades

October 12 – November 18

‘The Story of Winnie the Pooh’ for Kindergarten and 1st Grades

April 12 – May 19

Our mini musicals will rehearse every Tuesday and Thursday during the six-week session for one hour between 2:45 and 5:00 pm. The performance will be in the evening on the last Thursday of the session. These Mini Musicals will include narration, vocal instruction and choreography as performers tell these high-energy, classic stories.

Full-Scale Musical:

‘The AristoCats’ - Open to 4th and 5th Graders: This full-scale musical has been a tradition at Walnut Acres for over 25 years. Auditions will be in December (please note all registered students will be cast in the show – auditions are needed to help the directors assign roles). Rehearsals run from December through early March on Tuesday or Thursday from 2:45 to 5:00 pm. For Run-through and Dress Rehearsals there may be a couple other weekdays added in February, and rehearsals may run slightly later close to the performance dates. Two performances for each cast will be March 4, 5, 11, and 12.

2022 - Summer Camp Musical

‘Summer Magic’ - Open to students who will have completed grades 3, 4, and 5 in the summer of 2022: June 6 – 25. Camp meets Monday – Friday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Camp ends with two performances on June 24 & 25. ‘Summer Magic’ is an upbeat, full-scale musical, which features scenes and songs from several popular shows.

As you review the program listings, please know that due to COVID, we may have to limit the number of students in each program. Our hope is to have 20 students in each group. We will accept enrollment based on the order deposit payment is received with completed on-line registration. If there is enough interest, we will likely open a second section, but that is not guaranteed.

TO SECURE YOUR STUDENT’S SPOT, click here to complete the online registration and pay the deposit of $50/program by Venmo to CU YT (please note the space between the U and the Y) or mail a check to CUYT c/o Judy Ryken, 957 Chandler Ct. Concord, CA 94518.

One month before each program begins, the balance of the tuition will be due (also by Venmo or check).
