President’s Message

June 21, 2013

Dear Walnut Acres Families,

Greetings and Happy Summer!  The end of the school year is always a great time to reflect on all the wonderful programs and activities we hosted throughout the year.  Our fundraisers and activities were all successful for the simple reason that the Walnut Acres community is filled with wonderful parents who generously share their time and talent in so many ways.  I’d like to take a moment to call out a few activities that went above and beyond for our wonderful school.

First, thank you to the many volunteers who helped organize, plan and work on the 2013 “Havana Nights” Auction and for the parents who attended and participated in the event.  The Auction team’s commitment and hard work along with the generosity of those who participated helped raise over $86,000.00 for the Walnut Acres PFC!

We also want to thank Fran Doggett and Melissa Sunbury for their commitment to “The Jaguar Fund”.  They are happy to report that the Jaguar fund raised close to $130,000.00 for the PFC!

Finally, the PEAK program generously donated a check in the amount of  $4,876.81 to provide additional support of our programs.  PEAK is a non-profit education foundation dedicated to preserving and enriching students’ learning experiences in our local schools in Walnut Creek.

Planning for the 2013-14 school year is already in process.  Parents have volunteered to chair many of the much-needed programs on the PFC and there are still several open positions should you want to get involved.

Please check the PFC website for more information about open positions, important dates and for the updated school year calendar.  The PFC website is a great resource in addition to the Enews messages sent out on a weekly basis.

I am looking forward to working with many of you in the coming school year.  I have much to live up to succeeding Nicole Padoan as President.  She along with Anna Saunders, Terri Lindeman and Denise Flynn were an essential part of how well the PFC is structured and has run these past few years.

The next PFC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21 at 7pm in the school library.  Jaguar Day is Thursday, August 22 form 2-6pm.  I hope that I will have the privilege of seeing you at both events.  Thank you again for a fantastic school year and here’s to 2013-2014 being equally the same!  Enjoy your summer!

Sincerely, Monica Chang

2013-14 PFC President
