PFC President’s Message

"We must give more in order to get more. It is the generous giving of ourselves that produces the generous harvest.”

-Orison Swett Marden

As I walk my boys onto school grounds every morning and join all the families and staff of our Walnut Acres community, I am reminded of what a wonderful place our children come to learn. Ultimately, this would not be possible without strong teachers and the generous and continuous support through volunteering and donations made over the years by our parents.  THANK YOU!

With Dr. Dowd’s strong leadership, we are moving toward educational excellence in both 21st Century Learning and Common Core Standards.  I want to thank the teachers for welcoming and explaining to our parents the importance of these programs during  Back to School night.  Hearing about all the wonderful learning and fun activities the kids will be doing this year truly makes me so excited for all students at Walnut Acres.

Many committees and parent volunteers are diligently working to bring our kids the funds and experiences they deserve.  Special thanks to our room parents and room parent committee chairs for working closely with our teachers to fill the many volunteer positions in the classroom and for our PFC community events.

The Jaguar Fund campaign is well under way toward it’s year long journey of achieving 100% participation from all of our families.  At currently budgeted levels, your PFC spends a total of $550 per child each year to support programs, personnel and materials at Walnut Acres. For the 2013-2014 school year, the PFC is committed to providing classroom and science aides, vocal music, and technology support in the classroom all of which are vital to the success of our children.  For those who have not had an opportunity to donate to Jaguar Fund, it is not too late!  Jaguar Fund donation forms can be found in the school office and on the Walnut Acres PFC website.  Again, the PFC’s goal is 100% participation which will allow us to continue to offer these enriching and supportive programs for each and every one of our students at Walnut Acres.

I hope to see you and your family at the Walnut Acres Carnival on Sunday, Oct. 20th.  I also invite you to our next PFC meeting scheduled on Oct. 15th at 8:15am!  Please check the PFC calendar and website for more information about upcoming events.

As always, thank you for sharing your invaluable time and talent!

Your 2013-14 PFC President,

Monica Chang
