Dear Walnut Acres Parents,

As you are aware, much is happening in the world of education these days and it isn’t pretty.  I want to ask what you are doing to stay informed. Your child will only go through elementary school once. It is up to you to do whatever you can to make it the experience that you want and that your child deserves.

Did you know that depending on the outcome of the Governor’s budget negotiations, the MDUSD could be looking at 28 million dollars in cuts next year???  That’s just next year, never mind the years after that!  This WILL affect OUR school and YOUR kids.

I’d like to take this time to suggest some ways you can make sure you know what’s going on.  This is, of course, in addition to our monthly PFC meetings where we provide a summary for you.  All of what is listed below is on the News in Education tab on the PFC website.  I’d especially like to call your attention to the first bullet, “District Wide Budget Meetings”, where the community can learn about and offer suggestions on the MDUSD budget.  The 2nd meeting out of 4 is tomorrow!!!

Now is the time to be “in the know” so that you can advocate and make a difference in your child’s K-5 experience.  Walnut Acres is a JEWEL that we should all be so proud of, thanks to so many hard working parents, staff and students. I ask all of you to do your part in keeping it that way.

Many thanks to our Art Show Chairs - Sam Smith and Mari Arenson for a fabulous Art Show and to our Nominating Committee - Robin Piantidosi, Julie Connolly, Sam Smith, Paulinne Bowen and Kathy Vendel for working hard to fill our 2011-12 PFC Board!!!
