Dear Walnut Acres Parents,

The message of my last newsletter to you is simply and sincerely, thank you - for your time donated so lovingly in classrooms, in the learning lab, in the library, in the art room, and in meeting spaces.  Specifically,

*Thank you to those who taught so creatively in art awareness, those who taught so thoughtfully in PEP, and all of you who modeled  the value of education by focusing on learning at home and at school.

*Thank you to the hard-working chairs of all our fundraisers, to the many energetic parents who assisted those leaders, and to the vast majority of parents who participated in those fundraisers.

*Thank you to the diligent parents who worked behind the scenes creating products and experiences that enhanced our school, including the determinedly reliable folks who created the directory and the yearbook, and the incredibly focused chairs of the Art Show, Carnival, Community Service, Enrichment, Ice Cream Social, New Families, Room Parents, Open House Festival, Social, Teacher Appreciation,  T-shirts and Science Fair.

*Thank you to those tenacious souls who focused on school safety through emergency preparedness, drive thru, lunch patrol, insurance and first aid.

*Thank you to the skilled parents who enhanced communication between home and school  through, E-news, district liaison work, Communication Monday, and maintenance of the PFC website.

*Thank you to the community-spirited parents who have given their input on parent teacher committees such as Safety, School Site Council, and Strategic Planning.

*And finally, with great admiration, I thank the PFC Executive Committee members who gave their heart to our school through many hours of unpaid work and generously offered their creativity, their energy, their perspective, and their organizational skill to all of us.

I salute you all, parents!  Your collectively awe-inspiring level of support helps our school become the best it can be for all our children.  Please join us this Wednesday, 6/6, at 12:15 p.m. so that our school community can express our gratitude to you. We will begin with a Sing-out at 12:15 p.m. in the courtyard.  Students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. as usual, and at 12:45 p.m. we invite you in to the MUR for a 30 minute reception in your honor.

I wish you a relaxing and healthy summer with your families. May the lazy months of the season bring lots of opportunity for joys shared, sorrows halved, and bonds strengthened.  As the imminent psychologist, Virginia Axline, commented, “Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible -- the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family.”

Happy flourishing this summer,
