Through the support of our volunteers and fundraising efforts, the PFC is able to sponsor the following events and activities throughout the year. Contact a PFC Board Chair to get involved!

Art Awareness ongoing Volunteers are needed to teach monthly art appreciation classes in grades K-5. Training will be provided. Volunteers may request to be the art docent in their child's class. No art experience needed Training in September. Monthly commitment throughout the school year. Art Awareness dates to be determined between teacher and volunteer. 
Art Show Spring Volunteers needed for advertising, refreshments, music, set-up, and take down. Planning in February – April. Or on day of event only, both day and evening assistance needed. 
Auction Ongoing Help needed to confirm and solicit auction donations. Committee also helps with publicity, set-up, monitoring, and computer operations for auction closing. Fundraiser. Spring event. Commitment based on subcommittee involvement. Planning from August – March. Or on day of event only, both day and evening assistance needed. 
Book Fair Fall Help run the book fair in collaboration with Scholastic Books which benefits the school library. Planning from September – November. Or set up, clean up and cashier shifts the week of the event. After school sales. 
Carnival Fall Committee plans and runs this all-school event. Help is needed for publicity, decorations, food, program, and set-up and clean up. Fall event. Planning from August to October. Or food assistance the day of the event. Classroom shift times for each individual carnival booth are organized by the room parent. 
Community Announcements Ongoing Update Community Announcements section of PFC website. Make sure announcemnts are added and removed in a timely manner. Ongoing 
Community Service Fall/Spring Committee coordinates collection and distribution of food, clothing, toy, and books drives. Winter and Spring activities. Collection and distribution of items after school. 
Computers Technology Ongoing Assist with website maintenance and updating including regular supplements for eNews bimonthly publications and PFC announcements. Help with computer growth, plannning and replacement at Walnut Acres.  Can be done from home, year round including summers. Meet w/technology committee once per month after school during school year.  
Directory Fall Compile, edit, and distribute school directory. Fall project from August to October. Work can be done from home. 
Directory Advertising Spring/Fall Follow up and solicitation of directory advertisers. Data entry and ad layout. Work with Directory. Run directory campaign in late Spring & Fall. Can be done from home at any time. 
Drive-thru Ongoing Volunteers needed to staff the Drive-Thru for morning drop off (7:40-8:05am). Shifts on a weekly or monthly basis throughout the school year. May select preferred day of the week. 
Emergency Preparedness Fall/Ongoing Volunteers needed to help prepare the classrooms and school in case of an emergency or crisis situation. Fall kick off or on an as needed basis throughout the school year. To be determined by coordinator. 
Enews Ongoing Compile, edit, and produce bimonthly newsletter for constant contact distribution. Input emails for constant contact. For bi-monthly release throughout the school year. Work out schedule with E-news coordinators. 
Enrichment Ongoing Set up and confirm classes. Collect registration forms and make class rosters, be a liaison between instructors, school, and parents. Promote classes through E-news. Fall, Winter, and Spring class sessions. 
eScrip Ongoing Volunteers help sign up new supporters and update supporter information for various scrip programs. Fundraiser. Fall project. Updating from August – October. Ongoing email updates throughout the school year. 
Family Math Ongoing Assist instructor with the Family Math program which is a family involvement program that provides elementary school children and their parents with opportunities to develop problem solving skills and understanding of mathematical concepts in an enjoyable, nonthreatening atmosphere. Up to 6 monthly evening classes during the school year as determined by instructor. 
First Aid Ongoing Volunteers assist in the office between 11:30am - 1pm (lunchtime) with the first aid needs of students. A basic first aid orientation is available. No medical experience is necessary. On a monthly basis any day of the school week except Wednesdays.  
Gift Wrap Fall Volunteers needed to help collect and check accuracy of orders and/or help with the final distribution of the products. Fall event. Orders need to be processed shortly after the end of the sale in September and the products will arrive by mid- November 
Golf Tournament Winter/Spring Help organize and run Golf Tournament. Fundraising. Spring event. Planning January – April. Or day of the event assistance. 
Ice Cream Social Fall Volunteers needed to serve ice cream and toppings. Fall event. Planning August- September. Or evening of the event. 
Landscape Ongoing Volunteers needed to help maintain landscaping on campus, including watering flowers and planting. Volunteers will also be requested for special landscape projects.  Weekly watering. Or as needed through the school year for special projects. 
Library Ongoing Assist classes with book checkout. Also help with sorting and shelving books On a weekly basis throughout the school year based on your child’s library day. 
Lunch Patrol Ongoing Volunteers are needed to staff Lunchtime Parent Patrol 11:30am -1:00pm.  Shifts on a weekly or monthly basis throughout the school year. May select preferred day of the week. 
Nominating Spring Committee works on filling PFC Board positions on Slate for following year. Follow-up with current and prospective board members. Feb. to June with some positions confirmed in Aug. 
Office Support Ongoing Volunteers work assigned times doing duplicating, collating, and laminating for staff projects. Training provided.  Duplicating, arrange with coordinator weekly shift time through out the year. Communications, distribution is on Mondays on a bi-monthly basis. Also includes compiling and organizing motor vehicle insurance from parents and upkeep of marquee. 
Open House Festival Spring Help plan and carry out this all-school event. Help with publicity, soliciting sponsors, decorations, food, set-up, and clean up. Spring event. Planning to be determined by coordinator. 
Orientation Fall/Spring Parent and child volunteers needed as a buddy for the new student brown bag lunch and new parent orientation. Help organize packets for Kindergarten registration Assist new school families in August just prior to the start of school and Kindergarten Orientation in the Spring. 
Parent Educator Program (PEP) Ongoing Parents work in teams helping students develop lifelong skills. Scripted lessons for grades 2-4. Commitment is approximately 7 weeks, Mandatory training for first year volunteers. 1 hour per week for a class session and varies per grade with teaching throughout the year. 
Rainy Day Ongoing. Volunteers needed to supervise students in classrooms after lunch in MUR on rainy days. List compiled by Room Parents. Ongoing 
Read-A-Thon Fall Volunteers needed to prepare pledge envelopes, order prize packages, handle publicity, work at pledge collection tables, and collect money. This is our Vocal Music fundraiser. Fall event. Planning from August – November. Shift times for money collection and prize distribution before and after school. 
Room Parents Ongoing Organize classroom seasonal parties. Recruit class parent volunteers for the annual school carnival, auction, and other classroom related activities. 5th grade parents also coordinate and run a 5th grade party. Throughout the school year. Coordinate with classroom teacher. 
Science Fair Winter School-wide event to generate interest in science. Volunteers are needed for publicity, computer help, set-up, and clean up. Judges and classroom runners the day of the fair. Winter event. Schedule determined by Chairs. 
Social Fall and Holiday Volunteers needed to assist with the Back to School Breakfast on the first day of school and the PFC Holiday Party in December.  One Fall and Winter event to be planned and executed. 
Teacher Appreciation Ongoing Help with monthly luncheons, treats, or brunches for the staff. Assist with Teacher Appreciation Week.  Schedule on a monthly or as needed basis for lunches and baking. Help with extra activities during Teacher Appreciation Week in the Spring, including lunch, brunch, dessert bar and door banners. 
T-shirts Fall Volunteers are needed to assist with the sale of Walnut Acres T-shirts and spirit attire. Fall project. Spirit attire sales from August – November after school or at fall school functions. 
Walnut Acres Education Fund (WAEF) Ongoing, particularly in Fall. Strategize for how to collect money from families for education fund. Collect money throughout the year, especially in the fall and at Kick-Off Day. Ongoing. 
Yearbook Ongoing Take photos of school events, classroom activities, and students. Work on layout of pages for the yearbook. Take photos from August - December. Layout submission November, January & March. Distribute books in June.
