Thank you to everyone that made purchases during our Virtual Book Fair. We had almost $4,000 in sales which will result in ~$1,000 in rewards to purchase new books for our library! If you purchased a book from your teacher's wish list, once it is delivered be sure to drop it off at the classroom during your next drop-off day. We will have another book fair in the Spring to give everyone an opportunity to purchase books leading into the summer and encourage summer reading! More info to come next year. * * * * * Read-a-Thon envelopes went home, and 99pledges links have been sent so pitch a tent in your backyard, grab those flashlights, and “Camp Out With A Good Book”! Remember this year’s Read-A-Thon runs Nov. 18th – Dec. 2nd and is an exciting fundraiser that challenges students to use their most important academic skill, READING, to directly support our school. Of course some Halloween popcorn, an ice chest filled with soda and disposable Halloween themed masks would help get the Halloween spirit going. Alireza Vahdat from Round Table, and a former Walnut Acres parent, said this Walnut Acres fundraiser has happened since 2011. Usually the sales range between $400-$900. Last Wednesday they had over $2,000 in sales! From those sales, Round Table will be donating $405 to Walnut Acres. THANK YOU! Every bit helps the PFC. Our next Dine & Donate with be on October 27th with Jack's Urban Eats. Need some help managing your child’s distance learning? Looking for safe opportunities for your child to socialize with peers and engage in physical fitness, arts and recreation activities? The City of Walnut Creek’s Arts + Rec Department has launched a new series of School Day Enrichment Programs which provide students with social interactions and engaging enrichment activities throughout the day, while also supporting their distance learning. Your child will build new friendships and new skills while having fun with a small, physically distanced, stable group! Starting October 5 both half day sessions (4 days per week) and full day sessions (5 days per week) are available. Arts + Rec is also offering afterschool camps and electives both in-person and online that can augment your child’s distance learning day. Ever wonder what goes on in the Walnut Acres STEAM Lab? Our STEAM Lab is located in B-6, and that’s where the magic happens, at the hands of Patty Galindo, our Computer Science Instructor, and your students. Patty presented About our STEAM lab at our February PFC Meeting. The presentation contains videos from the classroom, so please don't share outside of our school community. Our STEAM Lab instructor is paid for by the PFC. Many thanks for your donations to Jaguar Fund, our Gala Auction, etc. Our students couldn't make STEAM magic without you! * * * * * Help with Extra Classroom Sanitation The PFC would like to mobilize the parents of Walnut Acres to help with this effort. For the short term, we would like to have parent volunteers wipe down all surfaces of all classrooms at least twice a week. We are doing our second session tomorrow (Wednesday)l. With the shortage of disinfectant supplies, we are hoping that some parents would be able to donate disinfectant wipes or bring their own supply when volunteering. Some teachers have been kind enough to donate a little of their own classroom supply, but ask that when possible, parents replenish them when the stores have restocked. Please note wipes must NOT contain bleach. We appreciate your assistance with keeping our children and staff healthy. Please help us collect nonperishable “Open and Eat” food items for the MDUSD HOPE Food Pantry. Start looking through your pantry and be on the lookout for more information to come. Please focus on "Open and Eat" Items. Canned foods are also welcome, but some families lack access to kitchens. MDUSD Homeless Outreach Program for Education (HOPE) is a district-wide program serving legally homeless children and their families. HOPE offers assistance with transportation to/from school, meals, and assistance to obtain health care and needed services. The Food Pantry provides food to families in need within our school district. * * * * *

Students representing Walnut Acres at the Showcase are the 3rd grade 1st and 2nd place winners; 4th grade 1st place group invention winners along with 4th grade 1st place individual winner.
